The New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory’s New York Section I Kick Off #1 was a great early season indoor meet. The meet took place on December 6th and saw action from some of New York’s best track and field athletes.

Grant Sheely of Dobbs Ferry HS (above) won the boys 1600m in 4:32.87 ahead of Mike Delfay, who recorded a time of 4:34.36. “My coach told me to slowly build through the race,” said Sheely. “So I did that and when I saw my opportunity I took it. I love running the banked turns at The Armory and how fast I feel on it.”

Rai Benjamin of Mount Vernon HS took the boys 300m in 35.90 shortly after.

The boys of Brewster HS (above) looked good while capturing the 4x800m in 8:34.82. “Nothing beats running at The Armory,” said Eric Fedio after the win. “Every time we run here we get chills.”

Victoria Jones-Alleye sped to victory in the girls 55m hurdles, recording a time of 8.66 for New Rochelle HS. She was able to pull away from her teammate, Rachel Darius, who ran 9.14 for second place.

The girls of Fox Lane HS won the 4x400m over Briarcliff HS in dramatic fashion, battling around the last lap to finish in 4:25.38 and 4:27.27, respectively.

The New Rochelle HS girls owned the throws, taking the top four spots in the weight throw; Monae Cooper 47-10.75, Jessica Jeffrey 43-5.25, Nijera Manuel 41-7.25 and Myaa Cuadra 36-9.50. Manuel would go on to win the girls shot put as well with a throw of 35-10.75.
